The Salon d'Automne is an art exhibition held annually in Paris since 1903. At that time, its objective was twofold: to provide opportunities for young artists and to introduce Impressionism and its extensions to a popular audience.

The choice of autumn as the presentation season is doubly strategic: it allows Impressionist artists to present the small formats produced outdoors during the summer (thus placing themselves at the forefront of current events) and also to stand out from the other major exhibitions: that of the “Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts” and that of the “French Artists” in the spring.
